Record Entries Expected in House Of The Year Award

Record Entries Expected in Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers 2005 House of the Year and Commercial Awards

Early indications across the country are that a record number of entries are expected in this year’s Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers 2005 House of the Year and Commercial Awards.

Registered Master Builder Federation officials say entry figures are higher than last year in most of the 19 local competitions throughout New Zealand, but the final tally won’t be available until Friday, 22 April.

Houses and commercial buildings from around New Zealand have been entered, as builders set their sights on Gold, Silver or Bronze Quality Marks in their competitions.

Local judging starts in May, with each Association’s Gold, Silver, and Bronze award winners to be announced in June and July.

Registered Master Builders Federation CEO, Chris Preston, isn’t surprised that entries are likely to exceed last year’s numbers.

“The houses and commercial buildings entered by our members each year illustrate the finest in building quality and workmanship. With the competition proving to be more popular than ever, it’s going to be a tough job for the judges,” says Chris Preston

PlaceMakers CEO, David Worley, is looking forward to the competition which PlaceMakers has proudly supported it since its inception 15 years ago.

"The Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year Awards exceed our expectations every year and continue to be the flagship event in the building industry. We're proud to support a competition that provides builders with the opportunity to showcase their skills and expertise to homeowners," says David Worley.

The Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year is structured on two levels – local and national. Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners are determined in 19 local competitions around New Zealand using a points-based system. Entrants are marked against a scorecard with one overall winner awarded in each category. The Top 100 Gold Award winners become National Gold Reserve Award recipients. The recipients are judged again by a new, national judging panel to determine the national category winners, as well as the 2005 PlaceMakers Supreme Award. The commercial entries are separately judged by a national commercial judging panel which determines local and national award winners at the same time.

National winners in the residential and commercial categories and the overall PlaceMakers Supreme winner will be announced at a black tie gala event in Auckland on October 15.

The Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year is supported by principal sponsor PlaceMakers; and Lifestyle, Commercial and Supporting sponsors James Hardie, GIB Living Solutions®, Origin® , Tasman Insulation (Pink® Batts® Ultra), Mico Plumbing Supplies (Mico Bathrooms), and Housing New Zealand Corporation.
