TRENZ 2005 Appointments Bonanza!

The Tourism Industry Association represents 3500 businesses and organisations within the tourism industry.

Members include airlines, airport companies, and regional tourism organisations, rental car, coach and taxi companies, inbound tour operators, accommodation providers, tourism attractions, researchers, training organisations and tourism services providers.

Tourism is New Zealand’s largest export earner – accounting for 17.8% of this country’s export earnings.

The Tourism Industry Association organises the New Zealand Tourism Conference, TRENZ and the New Zealand Tourism Awards.

TIA says this year a record 33,000 fifteen minute meetings have already been prescheduled between tourism operators and international buyers in advance of TRENZ which takes place in Christchurch 13-16 June.

“A thriving tourism industry association event equals a thriving industry and with the event growing every year – this can’t be denied. Some operators say that around 75% of their international business comes from contacts made at TRENZ which indicates around $2 billion potential revenue generation over the four days. The statistics are staggering,” says Chief Executive, Tourism Industry Association, Fiona Luhrs.

Using a state-of-art on-line event management and booking system, the exclusive business event is based around three days of meetings between 450 New Zealand tourism companies and 400 international travel experts and professionals. All leading tourism agencies attend TRENZ including the Ministry of Tourism, Tourism New Zealand, the Maori Tourism Council and regional tourism organisations from around the country.
“TRENZ is the opportunity of the year for business people in the country’s largest export sector to pitch new product and cement relationships with our key off shore customers and advocates,” says Luhrs. “It is a compelling forum which continues to impress our guests every year.”
Over 60 news, features, and business media delegates will attend the event including 30 international journalists targeted in Tourism New Zealand’s highly successful international media programme.

There is only a couple of weeks to go before the event begins and organisers are fine tuning plans to host visitors with the finest Canterbury cuisine, award winning local wines, smartest accommodation, best of kiwi entertainers and warmest hospitality the country has to offer.

Key statistics about TRENZ 2005:
Over 1700 people are expected to attend the event at the Westpac Event Centre (TRENZ is not open to the public)
In 2005 over 33,000 appointments are pre-scheduled before TRENZ
Over 50 guests from local government and allied industries, and senior business professionals are expected to attend the TRENZ VIP programme in 2005.
Key statistics about tourism:

Tourism is the world's fastest growing industry
New Zealand tourism arrivals have doubled in size since 1994
Forecast annual growth is 6% on average for at least the next five years
Tourism is New Zealand's single largest export sector and contributed $7.4 billion dollars to the economy in the year ended March 2003. That is 17.8 % of exports
Tourism directly and indirectly employs 10 percent of the work force. That is one in 10 jobs in New Zealand.
Tourism represents 9.6% of gross domestic product and generates nearly $500 million in GST returns from international visitors each year. Tourism is the only export sector whose international clients pay GST.
