Tourism Awards Nominees Announced At TRENZ

2005 Tourism Industry Awards Nominees Announced At TRENZ

The Tourism Industry Association represents more than 2000 businesses and organisations within the tourism industry.

Members include accommodation and transport providers, tourism attractions, visitor activities such as adventure and cultural tourism, inbound tour operators, regional tourism organisations, visitor information centres, researchers, publishers, consultants, training organisations and other tourism service providers.

Tourism is New Zealand’s largest single export sector – accounting for 17.8% of this country’s export earnings.

The Tourism Industry Association organises the Tourism Industry Conference, TRENZ and the Tourism industry Awards.

Go to www.tianz.org.nz Leading tourism operators will be announced as nominees for the 50th anniversary, 2005 Tourism Industry Awards tonight. The announcement will take place at the opening function this evening for TRENZ, the tourism industry business event of the year.

Tourism Industry Association (TIA) who organise both TRENZ and the Tourism Industry Awards say there is an excellent calibre of nominees this year (see attached list) vying for the industry’s highest possible accolade.

“For 50 years now the Tourism Industry Awards have recognised those operators who are committed to providing a world class visitor experience backed up by a world class business. It is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate those operators who are exceptional at what they do,” says Fiona Luhrs, Chief Executive of TIA.

“Getting to the nominee stage is the first step in the thorough review process. Firstly, the written entries from these selected nominees were rigorously assessed, critiqued and scored and now each company will undergo an in-depth site visit by industry judges. The process is scrupulous because we want the best to win,” says Luhrs.

The winning companies of the Tourism Awards will be chosen in the coming months and will be announced at the Tourism Industry Awards Gala, 21 September 2005 in Auckland.

The Tourism Industry Awards play an important role in enhancing New Zealand’s image as a tourism destination and increase public awareness of the tourism industry's contribution to New Zealand's economic success.

For visitors to New Zealand, the Tourism Industry Award logo displayed on a company's brochure represents the very best our country has to offer. TIA and the award’s sponsors – as well as winners - are proud of the status an Award win signifies.
