Wine Industry Celebrates Top Achievers
- 2005 Liquorland Top 100 International Wine Competition results -

Fifteen trophies and the Liquorland Top 100 for 2005 were announced at a gala event in Auckland on Friday night. Highlighting the ongoing importance of this well-established wine show, Liquorland Merchandise Manager Andrew Bartley said, “This competition continues to provide the most comprehensive consumer guide to all wines available on the New Zealand market”.

Chief Judge, Brent Marris of Wither Hills said, “The overall quality of the 1500 wines entered was very high, so for those to come down to just 15 trophy winners is an extraordinary achievement for the producers.”

The Champion Wine of the Show went to Astrolabe Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2005 having also won Champion Sauvignon Blanc. Champion Winery was awarded to Waipara Hills who snared three other trophies – Champion Pinot Gris, Champion Gewurztraminer and Champion Pinot Noir.

The judging of the entries took place at the Westpac Stadium, Wellington at the end of August and involved twelve senior judges and eight associate judges. Competition Director Belinda Jackson said, “The show was a pleasure to be involved in with such committed sponsors and enthusiastic support from the wine industry.”

The culmination of the show, The Liquorland Top 100 contains the 76 gold medal winning wines and 24 silver medals. These can be found at Liquorland stores nationwide from this week.
