Throw away that CV!

Throw away that CV!

Hamish Webb has taken job hunting to an all new level, as he hunts for a job without a CV.

Asking for a CV has become an accepted practice.

More than 95% of all job vacancies require applicants to have a CV.

The CV is used to filter people to the interview stage.

An innovative new concept that Hamish calls "StopCV" is all about paying little or no attention to Curriculum Vitae and referees.

I spoke with Hamish about the problems CVs create. "When an employer asks for a CV it filters out people who are very positive and enthusiastic with the job they already have. These people would consider a new job especially if it offered more money, however they do not have a CV prepared.

A high percentage of these people are just what the employer is looking for."

Webb said. He went on to say "Many of the top professionals being hired for high paying jobs do not even write their own CV, they hire someone to do it for them. Those that do not hire someone usually refer to a book, to write their own and they soon become overwhelmed with the books perfect examples. So they start adding to varying degrees, a few extras to their CV. In some cases this leads to ordering fake qualifications, such as degrees off the internet."

Laura Callahan is an example of such extremes. She ordered her qualification off the internet and landed a high paying job at the Whitehouse for 6 years, before it was discovered she got her PhD off the internet.

StopCV is a unique employment filtering system that does not eliminate people without a CV.

It makes jobs applications easier and faster to compare than asking for a CV and therefore it reduces the cost in hiring a new employee.

It works by simply paying more attention to the applicant, by finding out what the applicant will do for the business hiring.

StopCV does not use common interview questions such as; "Why do you want to work for this company?" With which interviewers are usually listening for an answer like "I have always wanted to work for this company, I love the product and use it all the time, and I see a real opportunity to build my career here."

As an interviewer you have learnt nothing from this process, other than the fact your applicant has read a job hunting book.

StopCV uses questions like; "A customer brings in a VCR and explains to you that it was broken when they brought it, what will you do?"

Now as an interviewer you are going to learn something about the way this person is going to handle their job.

A sample of 30 businesses which currently had vacancies, were asked if they would be interested in looking at a new system of hiring employees. 76.6% responded positively by taking a look at the StopCV system.

Hamish Webb is doing more than just writing about his theoretical idea, he is trialing it too!

Hamish is currently looking for a job without a CV. Promoting himself and his ideas via his website StopCV.com. He plans to release a book next year about his experience, so he can pass the information on.

People interested in contacting Hamish with ideas, suggestions, jobs, free advice or just having a question answered can contact him at his website http://www.stopcv.com or emailing hamish@stopcv.com.
