Queenstown number one place for Valentines Day

Wotif.com survey reveals Queenstown number one place for Valentines Day

Cupid’s arrow points towards a night away in Queenstown reveals Wotif.com survey

Wotif.com New Zealand survey confirms the most sought after gifts this Valentine’s Day

Auckland – 13 February 2006, Wotif.com ( http://www.wotif.com) New Zealand’s leading accommodation website reveals that out of the Wotif.com customers surveyed, a whopping 81% would prefer to receive a night away to celebrate Valentine’s Day, rather than dine out, receive flowers or munch their way through a box of chocolates.

In its second year, the Wotif.com survey again asked New Zealanders what they would most like to receive for Valentine’s Day and once again a romantic night away was preferred by the large majority.

Topping Cupid’s wish list, coming in nearly 20% higher than the 2005 survey, a romantic night away was followed by some special jewellery at 6% a bouquet of flowers at 4% with a romantic candlelit dinner or picnic and chocolates shared equal fourth place at just two percent.

Wotif.com New Zealand Manager, Tania Witheford, says that they found the Valentine’s Day survey very popular again this year with the 20,000 strong database of Wotif.com customers.

“Lets face it, everyone likes a bit of romance in life. It’s interesting to see that the figures this year have seen a massive jump in a night away and a drop off in support for a romantic dinner out or a bouquet of flowers. This seems to show that Kiwis see these items as more common place and part of daily life these days,” said Witheford.

The survey also asked participants to name their favourite destinations to go for a romantic night away in New Zealand.

The top seven destinations were Queenstown at 36% of the vote, followed by Paihia-Bay of Islands, Auckland, Christchurch, Nelson, Marlborough and Akaroa.

“It will be great to monitor the Valentine’s Day survey results each year from now on and see how the trend changes over time,” Witheford said.

One of the survey participants was even lucky enough to win a $200 Wotif.com gift voucher to spend on their Valentine and reward them with New Zealand’s most sought after gift

Other more interesting responses to gifts were an anchor winch, the latest Xbox with games, an engagement ring to be fixed so the Valentine could wear it again, and for some unlucky person the quote, “Anything would be good compared to previous years!”
