Commission to investigate Vodafone Application

14 March 2006/106

Commerce Commission to investigate Vodafone Application for Interconnection with Telecom's fixed network

The Commission has decided to investigate Vodafone's request for an access determination in relation to interconnection with Telecom's fixed network. Vodafone is planning to introduce a local service using cellular phones that also act as home phones, and is seeking a service that allows for calls to be passed between Vodafone local customers and Telecom local customers.

The service sought applies only to calls to and from Vodafone local numbers. An existing agreement is in place between Vodafone and Telecom for interconnection of calls to and from Vodafone's mobile numbers.

The Commission has asked the relevant parties to provide comments on matters related to the Application before it issues a Draft Determination.

A copy of the Decision is available on the Commission website.
