Head for the sun with the family these winter holidays aboard P&O Cruises’ Pacific Star or Pacific Sun and you’ll be a star with your kids.

P&O Cruises has recently released an Ultimate Family Holiday brochure outlining how families can enjoy a cruise together – and separately.

Crews aboard both Pacific Star and Pacific Sun unashamedly pamper children to ensure mum and dad have a great holiday too.

The 1,400-passenger Pacific Star began its first South Pacific season in December following a major refit that included full upgrades to bigger kids’ clubs.

Pacific Sun also caters to youngsters with the 1,900-passenger liner offering kids a 2-storey water-slide in addition to its children’s clubs and programmes.

P&O Cruises’ New Zealand Manager Shannon Currie says children’s activities aboard ship are under the direction of professional co-ordinators between 9am and 10pm daily.

With child-minding available from 10pm to 1am for a nominal charge, parents can relax on the high-seas in the comfort that their children are safe and well looked-after.

“From the age of three* to their late teens, our ships are giant entertainment centres for youngsters,” Mr Currie says. “Cruising is the ultimate family holiday offering loads of fun for every passenger.”

Fares for kids include main meals, entertainment and accommodation aboard ship making cruising a relaxing and affordable holiday option.

Children with unlimited energy can tackle the long list of shipboard activities on offer in the supervised kids’ clubs – from dance parties, dress-ups, painting, craft, games, toys, quizzes, talent shows, movies day and night and theme shows to water-based thrills in the pools, waterslide and whirlpool spas.

There are even special meal times for children so parents are free to enjoy an uninterrupted five-course meal while their kids spend the evening in the kid’s club occupied by activities such as Dress-Up Parties and ‘Coketail’ Evenings.

“Everyone has a great time on board, whether enjoying all the activities on offer or just simply relaxing by the pool,” Mr Currie says. “Then when the ship arrives at its destination the whole family can enjoy the day ashore discovering the native culture, snorkelling or swimming in turquoise lagoons in tropical ports and islands throughout the South Pacific.

“The best part is that all these tropical ports come to you, parents only have to unpack once – and a free valet laundry service for the clothes of kids (aged under 12) means the entire family can unwind!”

Families can sail from Sydney in the mid-year school holidays from $2,227.50 per adult** and $425.50 per child (aged 3-12 years) on Pacific Sun’s June 30 departure. This 10-night cruise visits four ports in New Caledonia and Vanuatu – Noumea, Ouvea, Port Vila and Lamen Bay.

Or cruise from Brisbane in the third term holidays on Pacific Star. There is a 7-night cruise departing for Tropical North Queensland on September 16 visiting The Whitsundays, Cairns and Port Douglas for $1,711.50 per adult and $317.50 per child***.
