New appointments strengthen Better by Design team


Two business specialists, a business advisor and a programme administrator have been appointed to the Better by Design team to help step up delivery of the audit programme and to work with companies post-audit to accelerate their growth through design integration initiatives.

Luiz Futerleib and Murray Chapman have taken on the business specialist roles in Auckland and Wellington respectively with Peter Thomson taking on the business advisor role in the Auckland office. Nandini Singh has been appointed programme administrator, also based out of Auckland. Tania Cooper continues her role in the Wellington office as business advisor.

Operations Manager for Better by Design, Judith Thompson, says the new team has a huge amount of business experience and will be able to provide an increased level of support to companies in the programme and to work with prospect companies more effectively.

Profiles of the new team are provided below.


Murray Chapman, Business Specialist

Murray is an experienced manager and consultant who spent eight years as a part owner/executive director of Outsource Solutions Ltd (OSL), a leader in office support services outsourcing in Australasia. A trained engineer, Murray had a 16 year career with Mobil where he managed a wide range of functions including engineering, construction, contract management, procurement, facilities management, systems development and change management. The Mobil role was followed by a period of business consulting in Wellington.

Luiz Futterleib, Business Specialist

Luiz has 25 years experience in manufacturing, operations, strategic and operational planning, finances and marketing. He has held general management roles with electronics company, Ampac Int. Systems, and Water Solutions New Zealand – the manufacturer of large volume water treatment systems. With a masters degree in electronics engineering, Luiz worked as a design engineer in the computers industry in Brazil before starting his own company manufacturing printed circuit boards. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1993.

Peter Thomson, Business Advisor

With a background in law, economics and strategy, Peter has experience with a wide range of clients in the manufacturing, telecommunications, energy, and financial services industries. Peter’s most recent role was as a corporate lawyer with Russell McVeagh where he was involved with several successful domestic and offshore takeovers, IPOs and mergers. Prior to joining the corporate team at Russell McVeagh, Peter completed a degree in International Trade and Law at Auckland University and Berkeley at the University of California. Peter has also worked as an intern with the Icehouse (International Centre for Excellence) in Auckland and the engineering firm Beca Carter.


Nandini Singh, Programme Administrator


Nandini has experience in business development and management, marketing, communications and project management. Her most recent role was manager for KURAN (NZ) Ltd, project managing the New Zealand schedules of Bollywood films. KURAN was a finalist in the New Zealand Trade & Enterprise Export Awards in 2001 and 2004, and was named a Top 100 Company by NZ Business, five years in a row. Nandini is studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies, readying for a Masters in Management.
