Telecom Gives New Freedom to Call

There are no more excuses for teenagers not calling their parents, following the launch of a new Telecom service today.

Telecom’s Freedom allows residential customers to make as many calls as they like, both ways, between a home phone and a nominated Telecom 027 mobile for just $10 a month, charged to the home phone account. Up to five Telecom 027 mobiles can be nominated at a cost of $10 per month, per mobile.

Calls can last for up to 60 minutes each and can be made at any time of the day, any day of the week. Any 027 mobile is eligible to be attached to this new service.

“If a parent nominates their teenager’s Telecom 027 mobile as part of their Freedom service, the teenager can phone home at any time for no cost – even if they’ve run out of credit,” said Telecom Mobile’s Head of Marketing Kevin Bowler.

“Freedom will offer peace of mind for parents in particular, but it’s going to make a real difference to the lives of everyone who is in regular contact with someone on mobile and mobile users wanting to ring home regularly.

“Sometimes there’s no substitute for hearing a voice on the other end of the phone, and we’re excited about being able to offer our customers more freedom to just pick up the phone and call.”

Calls from residential landlines to mobiles are presently charged to Telecom customers at a range of prices from 39 to 71 cents a minute, depending on the plan and time of day.

“At 39 cents a minute, customers on Freedom would only need to talk for 26 minutes a month to a nominated mobile to recoup the cost – and that doesn’ t take into consideration the savings from the mobile phone calling home,” Mr Bowler said.

“There’s no question that Telecom Freedom represents huge value for customers, and it’s going to change how people keep in touch.”
