Fairfax New Zealand Dominates International Media Awards

Two Fairfax New Zealand newspapers have scooped top prizes at the International Newspaper Marketing Association's (INMA) annual awards, which honour excellence in newspaper marketing.

The Press received six awards, the most won by any newspaper in the world at this year's event. It was joined by The Waikato Times, which won three awards. Fairfax New Zealand won more awards than any other single media company.

The Press topped several categories including 'Premiums/ Incentives' and 'In-Newspaper Promotion', and received three awards for its "Your Career" section.

The Waikato Times received the top award in three categories; 'Newspaper Research/Data Books and Media Packets', 'Managing advertiser relationships' and the 'Promotion of the Paper as an advertising medium'.

Fairfax New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Joan Withers was delighted by the company's success at the awards.

"This multiple award win reflects the high quality of our publications, and the crucial marketing around them. The INMA is a long-running international competition; these wins show that New Zealand is at the forefront of marketing innovation in the print media."

"To receive more awards than any other newspaper at this prestigious event reinforces that Fairfax New Zealand as a media company is performing well on the international stage. Our continued investment in our newspapers is also evident," Ms Withers said.

The awards are judged against tough international competition from over 1,300 members in 72 countries. Judging is based on concept, creativity, copy/graphic design, production, overall effectiveness and results.

The INMA is a non profit organisation dedicated to promoting advanced marketing principles in the newspaper industry. The awards were announced at the 71st hosting of the event, in Chicago, Illinois on Friday 7 April.
