First online training provider for accountants

Media release

First online training provider for accountants launched

The first training provider allowing New Zealand chartered accountants
to complete professional training online has been launched.

CPD Online director Scott Mason said the service will provide chartered
accountants with flexibility when meeting their formal training
requirements.

"Chartered accountants want the ability to complete their training
requirements in their own time, and in their own place - whether that is
at work or at home," Mr Mason said.

"CPD Online allows chartered accountants - both in industry and in
public practice - to do that and to choose courses that interest them,
rather than attending traditional half-day courses which are not
necessarily relevant to their own professional interests but which fit
their timetables."

Each training session is designed to take approximately one hour to
complete, including reading the material and answering the questions.
Each successfully completed session will qualify accountants for
one-hour formal training continuing professional development (CPD)
credit.

"Limiting the time required to complete a session to one hour makes it
easier for busy people to fit in their training around their other
obligations," Mr Mason said.

The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants requires accountants
to complete at least 20 CPD hours per year.

CPD Online topics range from trusts to human resources, and from the
sharemarket to taxation issues. Sessions are written by experts in each
particular topic area.

Authors include investment house Forsyth Barr, lawyers Anderson Lloyd
Caudwell, chartered accountants Taylor McLachlan and training provider
TEO Training.

Accountants in public practice based outside of the major cities will
also benefit from CPD Online because they will no longer have to travel
to attend as many courses to meet their professional training
requirements, Mr Mason said.

"It is also a winner for chartered accountants living overseas, or those
not working full-time who struggle to meet their training needs on top
of professional and personal obligations."

CPD Online is offering a free, no-obligation trial of the training
programme.

Costs are $365 + GST for ten one-hour sessions.
