Contact asks former workers to register interest

Contact Energy is asking former employees at the Roxburgh Dam to register their interest in the commemorations marking 50 years of the dam on October 21.

Contact Energy is hosting an open day at the dam for the local community, and for those people who have been employed during the operational life of the dam since it was commissioned 50 years ago.

A reunion for dam construction workers was held five years ago.

Members of the public will be able to tour the dam, have a sausage and a cuppa, and see photos and videos of the dam from its construction through to the present day.

Manager of the Roxburgh Dam, Graham Quinn, said Contact was also planning an informal function for former employees in Roxburgh during the evening, and asked former staff to register their interest.

"We appreciate that many people have worked on this dam and formed lasting friendships both with other workers and members of the Roxburgh community over the years," said Mr Quinn.

"We want to provide the opportunity to bring former employees together for a drink and a catch-up during the evening, and ask that these people contact us and register their interest," he said.

Former Roxburgh staff can register their interest by calling 0800 4ROX50 (0800 476 950) or emailing cathy.marsh@contact-energy.co.nz

Public open day: Roxburgh Dam: October 21, 11am – 4pm.
