Millbrook Members Given First Opportunity

Media Release October 19 2006

Millbrook Members Given First Opportunity In Major Property Development

A partial release of sections in a major housing development at Queenstown’s Millbrook resort will be made to its Country Club members this weekend.

Sixteen building sites at Millbrook West will be launched to the five-star resort’s 300-plus members on Saturday October 21.

Members will have the first opportunity to look over the large 1320sqm to 2270sqm sites, part of a planned half a billion dollar development. Offers from members will be invited by mid-December.

Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley said the initial partial release of Stage One sections to members was in recognition of their loyalty to the resort, and the high level of interest received from members.

“We value our members greatly and regard this release to them as a membership privilege,” he said.

“When we sold properties in our Streamside fairway development earlier this year, the majority were sold to existing members who recognized the value of further investing with Millbrook as a proven, quality product.”

Prices for the initial sixteen sites will not be released to members until mid-November. Further releases will be made available to the general public in the New Year, with marketing material and prices.

“Labour Weekend is historically when we have the greatest number of members ‘in-house’ for the AGM and the Spring Cup,” said Mr O’Malley.

“This weekend the sections have been marked out so members will be able to see for the first time exactly where they will fit into the landscape and the wider development, including our new nine-hole golf course,” said Mr O’Malley.

The development will eventually include around 200 homes and Millbrook aims to lodge its resource consent application for Stage One with the Queenstown Lakes District Council by the end of October. Millbrook has its own special zoning for development, with the initial consent a predominantly complying activity.

Mr O’Malley said there were a limited number of non-residential memberships released periodically, of which there were still some available.

The first stage of development will consist of 25 land sites, 34 house and land packages, a new nine-hole golf course designed by New Zealand golf legend Greg Turner, and a new driving range.

Work on the development is scheduled to start in autumn 2007.

The building sites are on sunny, elevated North-facing slopes overlooking the new and existing golf courses, all with 360-degree views to Coronet Peak, the Crown Range and The Remarkables mountain ranges.

Mr O’Malley said the natural contours and elevation of the land had lent itself well to establishing building platforms with the very best views and sunshine.

“The sites are simply sensational, fitting Millbrook’s style of relaxed rural sophistication,” he said.

Land contours and geographical rock formations of the land have also lent themselves beautifully to the new golf course, which will integrate with the existing Bob Charles-designed 18-hole championship course to offer three interchangeable nine-hole courses.

Mr O’Malley said Millbrook had carefully crafted design controls in place on the land to ensure consistent high standards of style and design for developments.
