Accounting Technician of the Year

30 October 2006

Palmerston North woman named Accounting Technician of the Year

Zoe Chrystall of Palmerston North has been named New Zealand's Accounting Technician of the Year for 2006. The Award was presented at the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants' Gala Dinner held in Wellington last Thursday. The Institute presents the Young Chartered Accountant of the Year Award each year to celebrate the profession's rising stars and recognise exceptional individual achievement.

Zoe works for MASH Trust, a not-for-profit organisation that provides community and residential services to people that experience disabilities.

"The judges were unanimous in their view that the work undertaken by Zoe had been a major contributor to the ongoing success of her employer," said chief judge Bronwyn Monopoli.

"Zoe has been instrumental in building robust accounting information systems and processes, showing a clear ability to think outside of the square." Zoe is a parent raising a six-year-old son, and the energy she displays in the workplace is also evident in her support for his sporting endeavours. She is a keen indoor netballer, a regular gym attendee, and one of drivers behind social activities at MASH.

The other winners announced on the night were Brendon Harrex of Gore, who took honours as Young Chartered Accountant of the Year, and Joanna Perry of Auckland who received the surprise award of the evening. Joanna, who is chair of the Financial Reporting Standards Board, received the Institute's Valued Contribution to the Profession Award.
