Website Garden Brings Cyber Community to Life

Landscapedesign.co.nz’s first ever Exhibition Garden at the Ellerslie International Flower Show promises to be a garden with a difference. Celebrating the successful landscape gardening website’s first birthday, the garden will literally bring the website to life by using only products from businesses featured in the website’s directory.

Tim Durrant, the founder and driving force behind landscapedesign.co.nz designed the exhibition garden, and faced the challenging task of choosing between all the innovative and unique outdoor products available from over 2,000 New Zealand businesses on the website.

“I wanted the garden to really show people what the website represents – a single location in cyber space where large and small businesses are shown together on equal ground, where innovative kiwi products are showcased and there’s a vibe that a great garden is available to all New Zealanders. New Zealand has a wealth of unique people and innovative products. Like the website, the exhibition garden is a celebration of this” says Durrant.

“The website’s success just shows that gardening really is the national pastime. Everyone is welcome to contribute to our online discussion groups and there’s no such thing as a stupid question”

One of the website's biggest fans is Tony Murrell, the resident landscape designer from TVNZ's 'Mucking In' programme. Murrell is collaborating on the landscapedesign.co.nz garden, and is designing the planting from Durrant's overall concept. The exhibition garden also features new sculptures from the highly respected New Zealand artist Des Robertshaw.

Landscapedesign.co.nz has evolved into an essential resource offering free information, articles, discussion forums and advice on landscaping in New Zealand. It is an online meeting place with a vibrant online community of gardeners who enjoy sharing ideas and inspiration.
