Pinot Noir showcase fast selling out

Pinot Noir showcase fast selling out

Fewer than a hundred tickets remain for the four-day celebration of Pinot Noir tipped to be the biggest event of its kind ever held in New Zealand.

Being held in Wellington from 29 January – 1 February, Pinot Noir 2007 will see 500 of the most influential international wine commentators, producers, trade, media and lovers of great wine gather for four days of eating, drinking, talking and celebrating New Zealand’s top red wine.

Board member Judy Finn says there have already been more registrations than the previous two Pinot Noir showcases held in 2001 and 2004, and fewer than 100 tickets are left to sell.

“So all those Pinot-loving foodies who haven’t yet bought their tickets had better get in quick, as should those rugby fans planning to head to Wellington for the International Sevens which take place the day after Pinot ‘07 finishes.

“What a great combo – four days of eating great food and drinking great wine and then two days of exciting rugby!”

Judy says if wine lovers don’t want to take four days off to enjoy Pinot Noir 2007, they have two other options.

“We are also offering the Cuisine magazine’s Pinot Lover’s Day of Homage on Thursday 1 February.

“This involves a sausage sizzle with a difference with leading international chefs Josh Emmett, Brad Farmerie and Rex Morgan designing a gourmet sausage to pair with two New Zealand Pinot Noirs. Participants can watch the sausages being made, cooked and can then taste them with the matching wines.

“They’ll then be able to taste 100 of New Zealand’s best Pinot Noirs, then it’s on to the Pinot Noir 2007 Gala Dinner in a special marquee on Wellington’s Waterfront.”

Judy says the gala dinner is expected to host a thousand people and will be prepared by a team of leading international chefs under the direction of Chef de Cuisine Ruth Pretty, with entertainment by the Montana World of Wearable Arts.

Tickets for the Cuisine magazine’s Pinot Lover’s Day of Homage cost $675 (incl GST) and are available from www.pinotnoir2007.co.nz

And if a whole day of homage to New Zealand’s top red wine is still too much, there’s the Grand Public Tasting on Wednesday 31 January.

“This will see wines from 100 leading Pinot Noir producers available for tasting, with Bollinger available to cleanse the palate and the chance to mix and mingle with the winemakers.

“It is a unique opportunity to taste some of the best wines in New Zealand and meet the people who make them, and would make the perfect Christmas present for the wine lover who has everything.”

The Grand Public Tasting will be held from 4pm – 6.30pm in the TSB Arena. Tickets are $55 (incl GST) or $44 (incl GST) if you pay by Visa and are available from www.pinotnoir2007.co.nz

Tickets to all three levels of the event will also be on sale at Toast Martinborough this weekend.

“Pinot Noir 2007 is shaping up to be the most important wine event in New Zealand history, offering something for everyone no matter what their level of interest in, or involvement with, wine,” says Judy.

“This gathering of world authorities on Pinot will bring new insight into this challenging grape. We have the best brains in the business coming from France, the States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

“It’s an event no true Pinotphile should miss.”
