Mix of old and new for CDs and DVDs this Christmas

Auckland, 12 December 2006 -- The Warehouse has just released the nationwide top sellers for CDs and DVDs this Christmas, and the results show that while Kiwis love a hot new DVD release, some old favourites are going to be found under the tree on Christmas morning.

Blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean 2 - Curse of the Black Pearl, Superman Returns, and The World's Fastest Indian are racing out the door, but classic chick flicks like Dirty Dancing and Grease are also making a comeback this Christmas.

Kids' favourites are almost all animated this year, with Cars, Ice Age 2 The Meltdown, and Over the Hedge topping the list. However the High School Musical phenomenon continues, and many parents will wake on Christmas morning to the sounds of this DVD.

The list shows that New Zealanders have very refined musical tastes. Classical albums like Il Divo's Siempre and Sarah Brightman's Diva: The Singles Collection will be added to Kiwis' CD collections this Christmas, as will Westlife's The Love Album.

Compilation CDs are also selling fast, with titles like Now Vol 22, High School Musical and The Best Christmas Album in the World all flying off the shelves. As Christmas preparations begin another hot CD is Housework Songs, which includes artists as diverse as The Monkees, Kylie Minogue, and Mike and the Mechanics. It seems that belting out a Queen song while dusting definitely helps when doing chores.

Albums by New Zealand artists are also going to be hiding in stockings and under the tree on Christmas morning, with Brooke Fraser's latest album Albertine and The Feelers' One World both selling very well. And the "emo" spirit is alive and well in My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade.
