Ernst & Young Announces Two Major Secondments

Ernst & Young Announces Two Major Secondments

Ernst & Young New Zealand is pleased to announce the overseas secondment of two of its Directors and Partners - Michael Stanley and Gareth Morgan.

Michael Stanley

Michael Stanley, Tax Director and Partner of Ernst & Young New Zealand, will be seconded to the Bangkok office of Ernst & Young Thailand, commencing in February 2007.

With more than 25 years of service to Ernst & Young in New Zealand, Michael has previously worked in London and the Middle East. Michael is a former Chairman and long-time Board Member for Ernst & Young New Zealand.

During his secondment Michael will return frequently to New Zealand, keeping in touch with the New Zealand firm and clients. He will remain a Director and Partner of the New Zealand firm throughout his secondment.

Ernst & Young Chief Executive John Judge says despite the geographic distance Michael will continue his close involvement in the firm’s operations here.

“This is a great opportunity for Michael and arises from the global nature of our firm,” says John. “Ernst & Young and our clients will benefit greatly from having Michael on the ground in South East Asia. I am sure he will enjoy the challenges the role will bring.”

Michael is a Master of Commerce (Honours) graduate from Canterbury University, and former President of the American Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand. He has lectured at the University of Auckland and has authored numerous taxation articles and presentations. His secondment is expected to last for at least two years.

Gareth Morgan

Gareth Morgan, an Auckland-based Mergers & Acquistions Partner, is relocating to Singapore as a seconded Partner of Ernst & Young New Zealand.

In Singapore he will be appointed Global Client Service Director for one of the firm's global accounts, Temasek. He will also be a member of Ernst & Young’s Far East Mergers & Acquisitions network.

Ernst & Young Chief Executive John Judge says it is a tribute to Gareth to be offered this role. “We’re delighted to have Gareth take the lead on such an important global account. It’s testament to his business acumen and relationship skills.”

Gareth has been a Partner with Ernst &Young New Zealand for eight years. After the three-year term of the secondment, he will be returning to New Zealand to continue his role as Partner.

He has worked previously in the U.K., U.S. and Australia, and is very much looking forward to the Singaporean secondment. Gareth will continue to support and serve his New Zealand clients in their international activities from Singapore, and will be a regular visitor back to New Zealand during his secondment.

In a previous career in general management, Gareth has been a CEO of a listed property development company. He has also been formerly a non-executive director of Vodafone New Zealand.

Gareth will be joined in Singapore by his wife Susanne and his youngest son, James, who will attend an international school in Singapore for his last three years of secondary education.
