Mobile Phone Guides On Call To Travellers

NEWS RELEASE - 16 MAY 2007

Mobile Phone Guides On Call To Travellers

Tourists and travellers on the move can now download comprehensive audio guides on New Zealand attractions to their mobile phones.

Wellington company Dayout has produced hundreds of guides describing popular locations and is making many available on the open market mobile content website, voeveo.com.

Dayout director, Alan Wylde, says voeveo.com automatically matches the audio file format for most mobile phone types used by touring visitors and domestic travellers.

"Previously buyers of our audio guides could only receive them wirelessly on PDA or Palmtop devices, or copy them to an iPod to listen to," Alan said.

"Now they are available on voeveo, it opens up the entire mobile phone market for people wanting detailed information on specific attractions at a touch of a key, wherever they are."

The guides sell for $1.25 each and contain several minutes of detailed narrative on locations as varied as Cape Reinga, Aoraki-Mount Cook, downtown Wellington and Queen Charlotte Sounds.

The community developer at voeveo.com, Annabel Youens, said the audio guides are the first of what will be a much wider range of mobile content with practical uses for tourists and travellers.

"As mobile phones adopt more multi-media formats, it will not be long before digital maps and videos can be accessed and downloaded wirelessly anytime and anywhere," she said.

"There are compelling advantages for people on the move who want rapid and reliable information on destinations, before or during their trip."

Another benefit for tourists is the ability to access mobile content on the internet before leaving home and pre-load information to their phones for events and places they plan to visit in New Zealand.

Alan said voeveo.com was the only site where people could browse for specific travel destination guides and download selections hassle-free to a standard mobile phone.

The voeveo site has been developed in New Zealand for unrestricted global trade of mobile content such as audio, video, games, images and music files.
