Small Acorns Announces ‘Virtual Relocation’

Small Acorns - the Contemporary Living Store and New Zealand’s number one Designers Guild retailer - is closing its Auckland store to focus on managing the growth of its burgeoning online business (www.smallacorns.co.nz), as well as its flagship store in Wellington.

Small Acorns was established in Wellington in April 1999 when it was chosen by Designers Guild (DG) to be the first DG Concept Store outside the UK to carry its range of bed linen, homeware, furniture and kid’s accessories, together with the fabrics and wallpapers for which they are internationally renowned.

Small Acorns owner Amanda Holland says that the thriving businesses of the company’s stores in Wellington and online have made it unnecessary to carry on with the Auckland location.

“With our online sales flourishing in the past year and many product lines in our Wellington store selling out within days, we have made a decision focus on these two areas of the business,” said Holland. “In a sense, the closure of our Auckland location is a ‘virtual relocation’, as more of the business will be driven online.”

The company opened a showroom in Ponsonby, Auckland in 2003 to profile the inspirational concepts, products and design elements of the store’s Designers Guild range into the Auckland market, as well as other product lines including Bloom Cosmetics, Trelise Cooper kids clothing and Mokopuna Marino clothing.

“Opening the Ponsonby store was a great opportunity to introduce Auckland designers to our range but with so many purchasing from our website, we have opted to invest our resources in our online offering, as well as in maintaining our flagship Wellington store. We are excited about expanding our product range in the year ahead to include more overseas designers and are looking forward to ongoing business growth.”

Small Acorns Auckland store will hold a relocation sale commencing Thursday 28th June.
