Broadband Fire Alarm monitoring service approved
ALARM NZ Broadband Fire Alarm monitoring service approved by New Zealand Fire Service
On the 6th July 2007 the New Zealand Fire Service CEO/National Commander Mr Mike Hall, certified ALARM New Zealand Limited
("ALARMNZ") as an Automatic Fire Alarm Service Provider (AFASP) giving it authority to connect Private Fire Alarms (PFA's) direct to the NZFS automatic fire dispatch system.
Alarm New Zealand is a fully independent company and not affiliated to any other Fire Alarm contractor and therefore is a genuine alternative to the Tyco group .
The Alarm New Zealand service is called "FIRELINK" and uses a Network Access Device ("NAD") as direct replacement to the Telecom LTX and ADT's ASE. In a standard configuration each NAD can support four (4) PFA's however is expandable to sixteen (16). Both SGD and DBA support is standard, each NAD has 28 hours of stand by power and is fully monitored against unauthorized tampering.
The NAD represents the future direction of alarm monitoring in New Zealand and is multi-network capable allowing the customer to transport a full range of monitoring services via any network path simultaneously. Such services include Fire, Security, Video, HVAC, emergency telephones and general building automation. .
The NAD allows Fire Alarm service agents to authenticate and gain a network pin hole to their equipment for remote programming and system diagnosis on Fire Alarms that are capable of this functionality.
The Alarm New Zealand "Alarm Web Browser" also gives customers and service agents 24/7 real time access to Alarm log history and system configuration records.
An ALARMNZ company technical spokesperson, says that the decision to move away from a wired circuit as a continuous alarm monitoring methodology in favor of 100% wireless solution is high risk, will deliver lower bandwidth and is inherently problematic causing additional maintenance concerns. ALARMNZ predicts most customer sites will return to a fixed wire circuit over the next few years to gain a wider range of services.
