Organic Sector Conference Open Day
Open Day Registration Announced For Organic Sector Conference
Press Release For Immediate Release: Thursday, 9 August 2007
Organics Aotearoa New Zealand (OANZ) has announced a special open day registration for the national Organic Sector Conference being held at Lincoln University from August 17 to 19.
"Our recent roadshow across New Zealand highlighted a groundswell of interest in organic production, and we've had an outstanding response from people wanting to attend the conference", said OANZ Executive Director, Ken Shirley.
"In response to this demand, we are offering the public an opportunity to come along to our conference on Saturday 18 August, and find out how organic production systems work.
"The national Organic Sector Conference brings together groups from across the organic sector and incorporates the annual gatherings of Bio-Gro NZ, the Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association and the Soil & Health Association.
"The special one-day registration rate of $100 will apply for visitors to the Saturday sessions, which begin at 8.30am with keynote addresses from Dr Ton Baars, Professor of Biodynamics at Kassel University (Germany), and Professor Roger Hitchings, the head of advisory services at Britain's Elm Farm Research Centre.
"Sessions throughout the day will cover organic certification, the market for organic products, organics and the environment, the Organic Advisory Programme, Maori values, organic techniques, animal and plant husbandry, and the threats and opportunities that New Zealand organic producers may face in the future.
"This is an opportunity for anyone to attend the most significant gathering of the organic sector for some time, which marks the 'coming of age' for organic production in New Zealand", Mr Shirley said.
