LACE-STIX is a new innovative product created by six young entrepreneurs from St. Marys College in Ponsonby, Auckland.
As students, the girls are required to wear black lace-up school shoes as part of the school uniform. The annoyance of tying shoelaces resulted in the ingenious idea of making the laces stretchable elastic t o allow the wearer to simply slip their feet in and out of their shoes without the hassles of tying the laces.
Since Lace-Stix look exactly like normal shoelaces, they provide both the style of a neat bow and the convenience of a slip on shoe, making them a great convenience for all ages.
Managing Director Tracey Hu says "Sick of tying your shoelaces all the time? With Lace-Stix you'll never have to again! Loose shoelaces are annoying, they can be a safety hazard, and simply forcing your feet into your shoes does a lot of damage to them. The average person spends over 80 hours of their life tying shoelaces which can easily be saved by using Lace-Stix. With the versatile range that we have, you're bound to find a Lace-Stix too suit any type of shoe."
At the moment Lace-Stix are available in a variety of styles and colours. While the Black laces are especially popular for school shoes, they are also useful for work and formal shoes. White laces are a great choice for sports shoes. Shorter laces can be purchased for young kids who find shoelaces difficult to tie and wider laces are available especially for Converse Chuck Taylors.
The year 12 and 13 girls started their own company, Inkspot Productions as part of the Young Enterprise Scheme. The program is owned by Enterprise New Zealand Trust and gives the students the opportunity to run their own business and learn valuable business skills for the future. Students invest real money, produce real products, pay real taxes and keep the real profits. YES is a great opportunity for students to realise their uniqueness, develop their strengths, work together as a team and strive for goals.
Their product Lace-Stix can be purchased from a number of shoe stores and school uniform shops in Auckland and are also available from TradeMe.
