Media Release for immediate use: Thursday 22 November 2007

Partnership Health Canterbury Appoints New Chief Executive

Jane Cartwright has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of New Zealand’s largest Primary Health Organisation (PHO), Partnership Health Canterbury.

Jane says she is thrilled with the appointment and is looking forward to the challenges of her new role.

“Partnership Health Canterbury strives to improve the health of all its enrolled communities in Canterbury by supporting the delivery of high-quality primary health care,” she says. “It promotes good health to stop people getting ill and works hard to ensure everyone is accessing primary health care when they need it.

“I am very passionate about primary health care and population health and my new role will allow me to develop initiatives which will benefit the community.”

Jane is a registered dietician and holds an MBA from the University of Otago. She is currently the Strategy Support Manager for the Christchurch City Council, where she has worked since 2005. In this role, Jane has worked on the development of the city’s community outcomes and on strategy and policy development.

Prior to this Jane held numerous senior roles in the health system, including General Manager for Healthlink South and Planning Manager for the Canterbury District Health Board.

Michael McEvedy, Chairman of Partnership Health Canterbury, says the board is absolutely delighted with Jane’s appointment.

“We know we’ve got the best person for the job,” he says. “Jane came out on top of a field of very qualified national and international applicants. She brings the community perspective to the role and her previous experience means she will hit the ground running, because she knows the organisations she will be dealing with.”

“I’m extremely confident Jane has the experience and leadership required to take our PHO into the future.”

Michael McEvedy says the board was sorry to farewell its previous Chief Executive, Carolyn Gullery.

“We were very sad to see Carolyn go. She did a tremendous job leading Partnership Health Canterbury. She was unique in her knowledge of primary health care. We wish her well in her new role as General Manager of Planning and Funding for the Canterbury District Health Board”

Jane Cartwright takes up her new position as Chief Executive on 20 January 2008.
