Telecom: Kiwis Start Year Off On A Green Foot
Purchases of the Telecom Solio – a portable solar phone charger – jumped by 60% between November and December 2007, highlighting the popularity of going ‘green’ for Christmas.
The Telecom Solio is a small, lightweight, hybrid charger, which uses solar energy to charge mobile phones and a range of other handheld electronic devices.
This spike in sales comes after a recent Telecom/My Mobile survey revealed that 74% of those questioned said they would feel safer with a solar powered charger while on holiday.
Telecom GM Consumer Marketing, David Craig says it is not just energy conscious Kiwis buying the Solio, but those who like the convenience and freedom it provides.
“The Solio is the perfect tool for the New Zealand outdoor lifestyle. People who enjoy camping or boating, for example, can keep their phones charged and ready to use even when power is not easily accessible,” says Mr Craig.
A fully charged Telecom Solio will charge a mobile phone twice and at the same rate as a conventional phone charger. After only one hour of charging in sunlight, it has enough energy to provide up to 25 minutes of additional talk time.
The Telecom Solio can also be used to charge a wide range of mobiles, ipods and MP3 players. It comes boxed with connections for Sanyo, Nokia (2mm), Motorola & Mini USB products.
