Date Change for Southern Filly Series

Date Change for Southern Filly Series

The Southern Regional Programming Committee has announced a change to the second leg of the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series.

Proposed reconstruction at the Wingatui Racecourse resulted in the second race of the Series originally being scheduled for Riverton in March.

With this work now being deferred, Gallop South wished to return the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Stakes to its usual venue of Wingatui, on 6 April.

The Southern Filly of the Year Series is an important part of the Southern Racing Calendar providing opportunities for good fillies to earn valuable black type while racing in New Zealand. The title of New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year is awarded to the three-year-old filly who succeeds in winning the most points after the completion of the four races in the Series.

The first leg of the Series, the New Zealand Bloodstock Canterbury Belle Stakes, was won on 22 September by the Brian and Shane Anderton trained Cherry Creek (Monashee Mountain x Stage Flash) giving her the first seven points on the leaderboard.

The confirmed dates races 2, 3 and 4 in the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series are now as follows:
