Qantas media statement regarding the company's half year results for the period to 31 December 2007.
Jetstar is continuing to perform ahead of expectations on the trans Tasman, more than two years after commencing operations in Christchurch.
For the half-year ended 31 December 2007, Jetstar carried around 210,000 passengers across the Tasman.
The airline is the largest carrier, based on capacity, operating on the trans Tasman route from Christchurch. Jetstar operates minimum daily return trans Tasman flights directly between Christchurch and Sydney (10 times weekly), Melbourne (9 times weekly), daily to Brisbane (7 times weekly) and a twice-weekly return service to the Gold Coast.
The frequency of flights has been able to be maintained since start up, supported by a rising yield and strong performance on the route – which has continued into this year.
The arrival of Jetstar on the trans Tasman increased weekly seating capacity for the Qantas Group by 11.0 percent to Christchurch (about 1,300 seats), with an increase in services from Melbourne and new direct services to the Gold Coast.
