Most-Awarded Cheese Wins People’s Choice

Media Release 5 March 2008

MOST-AWARDED CHEESE WINS PEOPLE’S CHOICE

An icon of the Kapiti brand, the Kapiti Kikorangi was awarded the prestigious New World Champion Favourite Cheese award at last night’s Cuisine NZ Champions of Cheese Awards held at Sky City. This category is based on New World sales information and represents the highest selling cheese in-store.

“Kapiti Kikorangi is New Zealand’s most-awarded cheese but every award is still a special honour for this incredible little cheese, made by Kapiti since the late eighties,” says Gina Klarwill, Kapiti Senior Brand Manager.

Kapiti Kikorangi is a stunning, triple cream blue cheese with a rich golden curd and creamy spoonable texture, marbled with dense blue veining. Klarwill says: “Kikorangi has eleven percent cream content which differentiates it from other blues that tend to be dry and crumbly. The combination of the cream and the delicate crafting of this cheese make it a consistent winner.”

Kapiti’s success at the 2008 Cuisine Champions of Cheese Awards is a clear demonstration that Fonterra Brands can create wonderful cheeses on any scale. From Kapiti Ramara, made in small 60kg batches, to the sale of 1.5 million 1kg blocks of Mainland cheese every year, Fonterra Brands is consistently producing award winning speciality cheeses of artisan quality.
