InterCity prepares extra seats on its coaches this Easter as Kiwis fight rising petrol costs

With the latest petrol price rise taking petrol costs to a record high, New Zealanders are looking for alternative methods of transport to get away this Easter.

In anticipation of a busy weekend, InterCity has added an additional 1,500 seats across its network, enabling Kiwis to leave their cars at home over this Easter period.

Sales and marketing manager for InterCity Group Limited, Daniel Rode, said by adding more than 1500 seats across its network, InterCity will be able to transport even more New Zealanders around the country.

“Easter is a time for being with family and friends and enjoying the last of summer, and with the rising cost of petrol we encourage families to leave their cars at home this weekend and travel on our extensive network throughout the country.

“Holiday periods are notorious for traffic jams and accidents and travelling by InterCity coach can be a relaxing and cost effective way to travel during this time,” said Mr Rode.

To offer passengers more capacity on its most popular routes, InterCity will be using its mega coaches, which are the largest passenger vehicles ever to operate on New Zealand’s roads.

At just under 14 metres long and 4.2 meters high (the same height as three cars stacked on top of each other), the mega coaches can carry up to 76 passengers each well at the same time cutting fuel emissions by 30 per cent.

The additional services will be operating across all major centres nationwide.

“There are still some excellent fares available across our network for passengers who are looking to head home for Easter or who are looking to explore a new part of the country. With one of the largest passenger networks in the country, passengers can travel to more than 700 communities from Cape Reinga to Invercargill and experience New Zealand hospitality at its best,” said Rode.
