Co-operation and communication recognised

May 27, 2008

The task of promoting the introduction of the Northern Busway has been recognised as a “superb example of inter-agency co-operation” at the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) 2008 Awards.

PRINZ presented a Highly Commended award in the Government/Quasi Government category to North Shore City Council, Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) and Core Communications (representing Transit NZ) last Friday, May 23, for its team effort.

In its assessment, the PRINZ judging panel indicated “given the complexity of this project, the cohesion was an impressive achievement”.

Judges praised the campaign’s creativity and clarity of messages.

“Benchmarking and ongoing monitoring have been well executed here. Flexibility was built into this campaign and results showed that the team was willing to adjust to changing demands. The communications, engagement and marketing aspects were well blended and executed,” they said.

North Shore City Council was represented on the Northern Busway project by communications advisors Kylie Smith, Jade Lucas, Monique Orme and Kurt Shanks, communications manager Blair Harkness and graphic designers Sam Smorenburg and James Brown.

ARTA’s contribution was led by Sharon Hunter and Jo Martin, while Core Communications’ team comprised Miriam McNicol, Rachel Blundell, Leone Hansen and Lucie Mairs.

The Government/Quasi Government category attracted a record number of entries this year. The winner, Let’s Talk About Smear Tests, was an “outstanding project” by the Ministry of Health and led by its communications manager, Graham Bethune.
