Vodafone supports Government decision to consider a ban on hand-held mobiles while driving
Vodafone supports the New Zealand Government’s decision to consider a ban on the use of hand-held mobiles while driving.
Russell Stanners, Vodafone Chief Executive says this is a great initiative as it will make New Zealand’s roads safer.
“Mobile phones are a great thing for motorists – they can be used to call for assistance in the event of a breakdown or an emergency,” says Stanners.
“However, a hand-held mobile should not be used while driving, we encourage people to let the call go through to voicemail, ignore the TXT, or pull over to the side of the road safely if the call is urgent.
“We believe most people already know that it’s wrong. We hope this will be a tipping point to change their behaviour.”
Vodafone’s own internal policy for staff forbids the use of hand-held mobile phones or sending or reading TXT messages or emailing while driving.
