March quarterly report on telecomms market

Commission releases March quarterly report on telecommunications markets

The Commerce Commission has released its March quarterly monitoring report containing key statistics about telecommunications markets in New Zealand and overseas.

This report is the Commission's fifth quarterly monitoring report, and builds on the previous four reports and its annual monitoring report for 2007.

For the first time the Commission has benchmarked Vodafone's fixed line residential phone plans and Vodafone's home phone plus national plan that uses its mobile network. Vodafone's home phone plus national plan is the cheapest New Zealand plan in the OECD's medium user basket, while TelstraClear's plans are the cheapest New Zealand plans in the OECD's low user and higher user baskets. The Commission will benchmark Vodafone's new home phone plus local plan in its June quarterly report.

The March quarterly report is available on the Commission's website: www.comcom.govt.nz, under Industry Regulation /Telecommunications/MonitoringandReporting.
