Kiwi Publisher Brings It Home

*****PRESS RELEASE*****

Kiwi Publisher Brings It Home

A young Kiwi entrepreneur who’s shaken up the Australian food magazine market is now about to bring his remarkable success story home.

Hunterville-born Roger Nitz, 36, will launch his magazine, recipes+, into the New Zealand market this week with a bold marketing initiative that has already been eagerly embraced by retailers from Invercargill to Kaitaia.

Launching with a $2 price tag for the first issue, Nitz has printed 100,000 copies of recipes+, a magazine targeting families on a budget with the slogan “saving you money @ the checkout”.

“It is unbelievably exciting to bring a Kiwi version of recipes+ into New Zealand. I’ve wanted to do it for years, but it needed to prove itself in Australia first. And it’s exceeded all my expectations.”

It’s only five years since Nitz took on the huge publishing giants in Australia. Although he had no prior publishing experience, he saw the potential for a budget-minded food magazine.

Within a year of its launch in September 2003 as a quarterly magazine with a cover price of $2.60, recipes+ became the fastest-growing magazine in Australia and now sells 141,754* a month. It is now one of the Top 10 monthly magazines in the market.

Nitz says the success of the title has been due to its strong focus on affordable, practical family recipes. Its hallmark is that recipes in the budget features are all costed, after being tested by recipe writers using a strict shopping budget.

“All our recipes are easy, quick to prepare and inexpensive,” Nitz says. “They're also inspirational, giving readers new ideas in every issue.

“I’m extremely proud of what the recipes+ team has achieved and to be launching a New Zealand issue.”

Nitz says all the recipes are edited and costed by Hastings home economist Rachel Blackmore and all products listed in the ingredients are commonly available in NZ supermarkets.

Recipes+ is printed by PMP New Zealand and distributed by Gordon & Gotch NZ.
