Airport Launches Re-designed Website

Airport Launches Re-designed Website

Christchurch International Airport Limited (CIAL) has launched its re-designed airport website, christchurchairport.co.nz, providing a benchmark for airports all over the world.

The new website features a fresh new design with simplified navigation making it easier for visitors to find key information. Flight arrival and departure times have been elevated to the homepage and now feature a new 'search by flight number' facility. Visitors can also use the website's interactive maps, check the weather, browse the shopping directory, and book flights, accommodation and car hire all online.

This project has seen CIAL successfully combine their former websites christchurchairport.co.nz (for travellers), airportcity.co.nz (for businesses), and their consumer websites SkiDealsNZ.com and TravelDealsNZ.com, into a single website under the domain christchurchairport.co.nz. The result is a single portal that provides information about the airport, and New Zealand's tourism gateway, for all user types. The new design has greatly improved the customers experience and meets all the needs of the various stakeholders.

The New Zealand based web design agency Terabyte was commissioned for this project, which began in February this year. A series of discovery workshops were undertaken which influenced the websites content and design, ensuring that the most important information is easy to find and user-friendly.

CIAL's General Manager Marketing and Business Development, Gareth Owen, said "We now have a website that we can be proud of, one that delivers an enhanced user experience and one which further affirms the airport's position as New Zealand's leading tourism gateway".

christchurchairport.co.nz has seen visitor numbers on average increase 37% each month for the same period last year. As a result of the re-design, and the increasing number of online transactions for travel products, visitor numbers are forecast for further growth.

The new website also offers a new channel for online advertising, providing advertisers with a uniquely targeted audience.

Christchurch International Airport New Zealand's Tourism Gateway

Christchurch International Airport welcomed 5.9 million passengers in 2007/2008, ranking as New Zealand's second largest airport. The Airport occupies a unique position economically, as the South Island's busiest and most strategic air connection to the world's trade and tourism markets. In addition, the airport plays an important role as the South Island's major domestic hub servicing all New Zealanders, enabling passengers to connect to a full spectrum of destinations throughout New Zealand. Christchurch International Airport is a major driver of the regional Canterbury economy, generating airport precinct related jobs for nearly 5000 people.

Christchurch International Airport is owned and operated by Christchurch International Airport Limited (CIAL). CIAL was established as a limited liability company in 1988, and ownership of CIAL is now shared by Christchurch City Holdings Limited with 75% and the New Zealand Government with 25%. The company's vision is to be recognised as New Zealand's leading tourist gateway.

Christchurch International Airport is a carbon neutral company and has received carboNZero certification from Landcare Research following a detailed measurement and analysis process. CIAL is the first airport company in the Southern Hemisphere to attain certified carbon neutral status and is the second carbon neutral certified airport company in the world.
