Awesome Planet Rockets onto Leaderboard

Awesome Planet Rockets onto Leaderboard

Three-year-old filly Awesome Planet recorded her first stakes success on Saturday, winning the Listed Soliloquy Lodge Stakes (1400m) and notched up four valuable NZB Filly of the Year Series points.

Ridden by Opie Bosson for the Graeme Rogerson, Scott Lucock & Roydon Bergerson training partnership, Awesome Planet (Giant's Causeway x Dance on the Moon, by Fasliyev) proved too strong over the Ellerslie track, drawing away in the closing stages to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Glamorous Girl (Thorn Park x J'Lo by Unbridled's Song) fought on for second while Shock (Keeper x Severe by Keen) finished third, earning themselves two points and one point respectively.

Awesome Planet has now won on two occasions and with three placings her earnings now amount to NZ$43,675. She was purchased by Dormello Stud at the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale for NZ$155,000 from Hallmark Stud and will be represented by a One Cool Cat half-brother at the 2009 National Yearling Sales Series (26 January - 3 February).

Her four points on the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year leaderboard, sees her sitting two behind last week's Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes (1200m) winner Juice (Bertolini x Call Minder). The next race in the prestigious Fillies Series will be the Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton on 8 November.
