The Ballance Farm Environment Awards have been announced as a finalist in the New Zealand Herald 2008 Sponsorship Awards.
The farming awards are up against some big wigs in the Radio Network Best International or National Cause Sponsorship category, such as the Noel Leeming Habitat for Humanity sponsorship as well as the Westpac Rescue Helicopters and BP Oil New Zealand’s Surf Rescue sponsorship.
Ballance General Manager of Sales and Marketing, Graeme Smith, says that he is proud that the Ballance Farm Environment Awards are getting the recognition they deserve.
‘The Ballance Farm Environment Awards give a lot back to New Zealand’s rural communities by way of advice and encouragement to ensure that our agriculture sector remains profitable and sustainable.
‘Our national economy largely relies on our agriculture sector, so the importance of these awards and what we all stand to learn from them must not be overlooked, says Mr Smith.

The winners of the New Zealand Herald 2008 Sponsorship Awards will be announced at an awards evening on Wednesday 19 November in Auckland.
The Ballance Farm Environment Awards play a vital role in the agricultural industry because of their capacity to increase industry knowledge and act as a showcase for farmers’ commitment to sustainable practices.
Farmers primarily enter the awards to find out more information on environmental and business sustainability.
Finalists of the 2008 Waikato Ballance Farm Environment Awards, Jonathon and Sarah Walker, who farm 24-hectare ‘Soggy Bottom’, west of Ngaruawahia, say that the judging process was very rewarding ‘because it made us take a long, hard and very detailed look at what we were doing.’
Their advice to anyone considering entering the awards is to give it a go. ‘All it will cost you is a bit of time.’
There is still time for farmers in most
regions to enter this year’s awards, with entries closing
in Horizons on 11 November, Waikato on 14 November,
Northland on 8 December and
Southland and Otago on 15
December. Entries have already closed in Canterbury,
