A new disposable breathalyser has been launched in time for the festive “party season”.
Chris Hood, NZ Redline distributor says Redline disposable breathalysers are an inexpensive product that Kiwis can use to check whether or not they are in a position to drive.
“Redline disposable breathalysers are a simple and affordable way for users to gauge if they are under or over the 0.08% BAC (blood alcohol content) limit, and help them decide if they are legal and safe to drive,” says Chris Hood.
“As well as being disposable, the Redline pack is slightly larger than a mobile phone so can easy be kept in a handbag, jacket pocket or car glove box,” says Chris Hood.
The handy device has proved its success in several overseas markets during the last 15 years, and is utilised by the national police forces of France, Italy and Spain, various road safety bodies throughout Europe and the Israeli Police. Redline disposable breathalysers have also been a key component in the French Government’s annual drink-driving promotional campaigns for the last 15 years.
More recently the disposable breathalysers were launched in Australia in conjunction with national crime prevention body, Crime Stoppers.
“Redline, like other responsible organisations, would prefer that Kiwis not drive at all if they’ve been drinking. However it is party season with Christmas fast approaching, so it’s sensible to keep a pack of Redline handy.” says Chris Hood.
Recent reported figures state that the overall number of drink drivers in New Zealand is on the rise. In 2007 (latest figures available) the total social cost of crashes involving drivers under the influence of alcohol/drugs was estimated at $838 million [1].
Redline disposable breathalysers have been tested by an internationally accredited New Zealand laboratory, and they are only disposable unit that is a certified product in accordance with Standards Australia AS 3457.
The Redline breathalyser will be available, BP Connect service stations, selected Woolworths and liquor stores, and NZ Safety outlets from December 2008.
The breathalysers come in a two-pack and will sell for around $11.
