Fonterra Clarifies Plea Comments

Fonterra wishes to clarify its comments regarding the plea entered by Madam Tian Wenhua, the former chairwoman and general manager of the Sanlu Group, who is facing charges brought in the Shjiazhuang Intermediate People’s Court in connection with the milk contamination issue.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Ferrier said today there appeared to be conflicting reports over Madam Tian’s plea. Mr Ferrier said Fonterra had been under the impression yesterday that Mrs Tian had pleaded not guilty. However there were other reports that she had pleaded guilty. Fonterra was not present at the trial. It is not appropriate for Fonterra to make any further comment while the Chinese court is deliberating its verdict.
