Ricoh makes Global 100 list for fifth year

NEWS RELEASE

Ricoh makes Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporation list for the fifth year in a row

Ricoh New Zealand’s parent company, Ricoh Group, has been selected as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations for the fifth consecutive year.

The Global 100 list includes companies from 15 countries across all industry sectors that were evaluated according to how effectively they manage environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities, relative to their industry peers.

“Worldwide, the Ricoh Group has long held sustainability as integral to its business approach, and this has helped us maintain market leadership,” says Ricoh New Zealand Managing Director Mike Pollok.

Mr Pollok says it is encouraging that given the current global financial environment, two thirds of the 2008 companies (65/100) remained on the list this year.

“The fact that so many of the 2008 companies have made the list again this year is evidence that despite the tough economic conditions, taking a holistic and long-term view is critical for business survival.

“The three principles - People, Planet and Profits – working in balance, forms Ricoh’s core philosophy. We endeavour to look after the societies in which we operate and the planet on which we live, while growing the business and delivering solutions for our customers.”

This year’s Global 100 were recognised at a private dinner at the World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland, hosted by the list’s founders, Corporate Knights.

About Ricoh New Zealand’s sustainability initiatives

Ricoh New Zealand actively promotes sustainability with its staff, suppliers and customers.

In 2009, Ricoh set the sustainability standard for the office equipment and document solutions industry by achieving carbon neutrality through Landcare Research’s carboNZero programme. Being carboNZeroTM certified has helped to further embed Ricoh’s culture of sustainability with its people and enhanced its commitment to the environmental sustainability of its operations.

Ricoh New Zealand was the first in the local industry to be certified under ISO 14001, and the first in its sector to have its products accredited with the Environmental Choice tick.

Other sustainability initiatives include: providing free collection for used toner cartridges and used machines; remanufacturing Ricoh machines for reuse or recycling and ensuring Ricoh products are Energy Star compliant.

Ricoh New Zealand is also privileged to be part of a group that is currently working with the Ministry for the Environment to develop a product stewardship scheme for the IT industry in New Zealand.
