Employment Law Prize Awarded to Super Woman
Simpson Grierson Employment Law Prize Awarded to Super Talented Woman.
University of Auckland law student and mother of four, Heather Tucker, is the well-deserved recipient of the 2009 Simpson Grierson Employment Law Prize.
Now in its sixth year, the prize recognises and rewards scholarship in the field of employment law and is awarded annually to the student with the best overall mark in the University of Auckland's employment law classes.
"Heather was immediately impressive when I met her in terms of her ability to analyse and get to the heart of an issue," said Bill Hodge, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law. "It was a pleasure to read her exam as she made every word count."
Simpson Grierson partner, Phillipa Muir, presented the $1,500 cheque at a prize-giving held in Auckland yesterday, saying "Heather really is extraordinary as she's juggled the demands of four adult children and the volume and complexity of work required to win this law prize. It's evidence of real work-life balance in action and we're delighted to congratulate her on this achievement."
For Heather, who has one year of full-time study to go before she completes her law degree, the prize was "much appreciated and as a mature student returning to study, would come in very handy".
Bill Hodge described the law prize as "a total success" and thanked Simpson Grierson on behalf of the Dean and staff at the Law Faculty for the firm's continuing support. "We are so appreciative of your firm's involvement in legal education and the law. In particular, Phillipa, who adds that something extra by giving guest lectures annually to our class."
Simpson Grierson has funded nine scholarships and two prizes over the last year.
