Citylink Applauds Quick Decision On Radio Spectrum By Communications And It Minister
CityLink is delighted that Communications and
Information Technology Minister Steven Joyce has decided to
advance policies that will enhance take-up of wireless
technology to support high-speed broadband networks says
chairman, David Ware.
CityLink provided submissions to the government about the need to allow access to 70-90 GHz band which will assist in the delivery of ultra-fast broadband, and maximises the value of this spectrum to industry participants and consumers.
“We are pleased that the new Minister has seen the benefits of allowing access to the 70-90 GHz band. CityLink is confident that use of this band will provide a cost-effective option to extend the fibre optical network to support of high-speed broadband networks such as CityLink’s Auckland and Wellington fibre networks.
“Every so often we come across a customer that where its just not practical or cost effective to run a fibre optic cable into their building. This decision will allow these customers for the first time to enjoy the benefits of ultra high speed broadband. In addition we will be using the technology to establish beach heads. We will be able to pop a wireless link into an area to feed the first customers and as demand grows we will be able to swap the wireless out and replace it with fibre ,”
CityLink also supports the proposed changes to permit licensing of fixed point to point links in the 70-90 GHz band under the administrative licensing regime.
“ We are delighted that the new Minister is acting promptly to advance policies that will improve the IT sector,” concluded Mr Ware.
