National and trans-Tasman law firm Duncan Cotterill has appointed four new partners to its Christchurch office, bringing the total number throughout the practice to 33.

Chief executive Janice Fredric said the firm is particularly pleased with the new appointments, all from within the practice, which reflect the comprehensive experience of Duncan Cotterill.

Richard Lang has experience in a diverse range of commercial and property law areas as well as private client and trust work. He has acted for a variety of small and large business clients with a focus on company structuring and commercial joint ventures and shareholder agreements, as well as complicated land transactions, including complex subdivision work. Richard has extensive experience advising on asset protection and succession planning as well as more complex trust matters.
Helen Smith is a litigation specialist with a broad client base. In her commercial litigation practice, she has acted for clients on a wide range of complex issues and disputes ranging from contract, land law, company law, professional negligence and insurance, creditors remedies and construction. She has a particular interest in administrative law, trust law and estate litigation. She has appeared as counsel in the Courts at all levels as well as representing clients in numerous mediations and negotiations.
Scott Whitaker focuses on finance and banking law, along with corporate and commercial law. He regularly advises on financing transactions and compliance, general corporate and commercial and property contracts and other matters. These include joint ventures, structuring companies and deals, subdivisions, leases, company acquisitions and disposals and the sale and purchase of residential and commercial property.

Oliver Roberts, originally from the UK, joined the firm in 2006 having specialised in mergers, acquisitions and corporate finance transactions in London. He remains dual qualified as both a Solicitor of England and Wales and a Barrister and Solicitor of New Zealand. Oliver has completed innovative and complex transactions and continues to advise a broad range of clients on both domestic and international commercial transactions.
