Orcon brings competition to the small business telecoms market

Orcon has today launched the country’s first unbundled SME telecoms packages - which cut more than $25 from the monthly cost of line rental and offer free local calling.

Orcon CEO, Scott Bartlett says the new service will bring about change and introduce competition to the small business telecoms market, and that the new business packages enable customers to enjoy the lower costs and better service that Orcon can deliver through Local Loop Unbundling. 

The launch of the packages lets Orcon to take on the big telcos with a new ‘extra line’ product priced around 50 per cent less[1] than its competitors and offering free local calling – which Orcon believes is a first for New Zealand businesses.

The packages are targeted at businesses with up to three or four staff who find that one phone and one data line are just not enough. From today, small businesses who sign up to the Orcon + network will be able to add up to two lines for voice, EFTPOS or fax for only $25 each a month.

“Small businesses have failed to see value in their telecommunications spend. Customers want change, and they want to see more value – Orcon listened, and we’re delivering,” Bartlett says.

“Business customers ask ‘why am I charged for local calls at work when I am not at home?’, and ‘why is my phone line rental so much more expensive?’. We wanted to change all of that.”

“Our extra line product helps oil the wheels of commerce. Calls can step down to the next available number and then on to voicemail if every line is busy, it’s an elegant solution.”

Orcon’s extra line product is available only in conjunction with its Orcon@Work+ network in unbundled exchanges in Auckland and central Wellington.
