Working with employers to help redundant staff

Working with employers to help redundant staff with job seeking

AUCKLAND, May 13, 2009: As the job market tightens up, it has never been more important to get an edge over other job seekers in order to secure an interview.

This is especially important for employees who have just been made redundant due to a tightening economic climate.

CV Plus provides a leading solution for people serious about improving their employment prospects, and also works with employers going through the often distressing process of reducing staffing levels at this difficult time.

CV Plus was founded by Renton Sutherland 12 years ago to provide applicants with the tools to get through the first stage of job applications to a successful interview. The CV Plus approach is to help people assess their job options, prepare sophisticated and tailored curriculum vitae and application letters, and make employment choices.

Making staff redundant is never an easy process and CV Plus is geared to help employers to assist their employees’ transition into the job-seeking market by arming them with a sophisticated, objective CV, set out in a way that maximises their achievements.

With the job market tightening throughout the world in all employment sectors, there is a growing need for job seekers to arm themselves with all possible tools to market their existing skills and abilities in order to gain the edge over other candidates.

The CV Plus system builds applicants’ confidence, and gets results cost effectively. Most employers sending employees to CV Plus make it part of the redundancy package, because it is an effective way to help employees re-establish themselves with friendly one on one interviews that make them realise that they do have something good to offer.

Mr Sutherland says very often clients are delighted and amazed to discover just how many positive skills they can identify.

In Auckland, unemployment is rising ahead of the national average. In December 2008, unemployment was at 5.4% compared with 4.6% nationally. The NZIER’s quarterly survey of businesses suggests that 36% of business have indicated they are likely to lay off staff, which points to a further increase in the unemployment rate.

Mr Sutherland says approaching the job application process can be daunting, especially for those who haven’t been in the market for a new job for a number of years.

“Even highly experienced senior executives can find facing an interview for the first time in many years a very daunting prospect,” Mr Sutherland says.

Writing an effective CV is a skill that many people don’t have, no matter how successful they are in their chosen field.

“We understand what employers look for in curriculum vitae to meet their job employment needs,” Mr Sutherland says.

And once a candidate has been shortlisted for an interview, Sutherland says that process can be even more overwhelming for some.

“We prepare candidates to present themselves in the best way possible and pre-arm them with positive ways to answer questions that are likely to be asked of them.”

Since CV Plus was created, many hundreds of its clients have been successful with their job applications, and most of its new business comes from referrals from previous clients.

The CV Plus approach begins with a Myers Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) test to determine the personality of the client, which helps develop the best approach for the next stage. The client is presented with a full 33-plus page report of the MBTI test and is coached through it page by page. If the client is applying for a specific job, CV Plus will also create the application letter as well as a carefully constructed CV. The process begins with an in depth interview and is followed up with an explanation of the full MBTI test report.

Sutherland says working with CV Plus is an ideal way to boost the chances of securing a job, especially with such a large number of job seekers in all sectors in the current economic climate.

CV Plus candidates approach interviews confident that they can do their best because they have been thoroughly prepared.
