Vinnies Art Box Dinner

JOHN PARKER - VINNIES ART BOX ARTIST

Vinnies Art Box Dinner - Wednesday 20th May at 7pm

It is time for another special Vinnies evening for which Geoff Scott owner/chef has been devising a sumptuous three course menu to compliment a nite at Vinnies with Vinnies Art Box Artist – John Parker.

John Parker regards himself as a traditional potter. He says, “Each piece is hand made and unique. I throw and turn all my work on the potter’s wheel. While the pieces are easily recognisable as the traditional pottery vessel, bottle, vase or bowl, my special concern is to push these concepts as far as possible into severe minimalism, into areas of fakery through a confusion with materials and into the functional/non-functional debate to explore the re-defining of these ideas.”

Parker’s practise is characterised by his desire to push boundaries. He held his first solo exhibition at New Vision Gallery, Auckland in 1973 and has had an equally successful career in theatre and exhibition design.

In 2002 the City Gallery Wellington presented “John Parker: Ceramics” a survey show acknowledging him as one of New Zealand’s foremost ceramicists and to celebrate his then 35 year career.

The evening offers dinners a unique opportunity to meet and hear John Parker talk about his work. John has also offered if you have one of his ceramics and you have always wanted to know about it please do bring it along. A special table will be set up to display the pieces.

The Dinner - three courses matched with wine $95 per person.
