Glidepath, the airport baggage handling, sorting and screening specialist, has opened an office in Mumbai to support its growing business in India.

“We have invested the time developing the market,” said Chairman and Managing Director, Ken Stevens.  ”Our track record for reliability, innovation and service is seeing us win more contracts to upgrade, design and install integrated airport baggage handling and security systems at regional and international airports across India as the government and private operators continue to invest in the rapid modernisation of aviation infrastructure. There is also opportunity to provide cargo and parcel handling systems.

“We have a stream of new airport work under contract as well as new opportunities in the pipeline so the timing is now right for Glidepath to have its own regional office in India to support our customers around this vast nation.”

Glidepath has recently completed airport baggage system upgrades and extensions in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and has work in progress in Kolkata, Cochin and another project in Indore as well as a healthy forward order book.

The office, located in central Mumbai, will be managed by Anoop Rawat, He will lead a locally recruited team with expertise in sales, service, engineering and project management who will be located at project sites to be close to the customer.

“India has recorded huge growth in domestic and international airline travel in recent years and despite the effects from the global economic downturn it is still racing to upgrade terminals and essential baggage handling and security systems to meet today’s needs,” Mr Stevens said.

The Auckland, New Zealand, headquartered company, is pressing ahead with its strategy to internationalise the business and is continuing to strengthen its market presence and capabilities in southern Africa, Australia, the USA where it has recently doubled the capacity of its manufacturing plant to cope with new work in North America, South America and Mexico.

“Glidepath is in good health with strong forward orders and big opportunities to be in the bidding for projects coming on stream to bring baggage handling and security x-ray and tracking systems up to the standard required in a number of countries, including the Americas, Australasia and India,” Mr Stevens said.

“Our aim is to continually build on our ability to deliver customised, quality assured solutions on budget and on time and provide superior service and relationship management by being close to the customer.”

The privately owned company, with 37 years experience in this specialist sector, has completed over 500 airport baggage handling systems in 61 countries. Glidepath provides tailored, end to end solutions from initial feasibility studies through to design, manufacture, installation and integrated turnkey project management as well as comprehensive operations and maintenance service.
