Retail Modern Apprentice Of The Year 2009 – Finalists Announced

The finalists for the 2009 Retail Modern Apprentice of the Year Awards have been announced:

Auckland/ Upper North Island:
• Emma Coakley - Hallensteins Lynn Mall, Auckland
• Shirleen Le Gallais - Xtreme Shampoo Shoppe, Whangarei
• Gabby MacDonald - Grove Mitre 10 Mega Glenfield, Auckland

Middle North Island:
• Corena Harley – Placemakers, Hamilton
• Hayley Hendl – Paper Plus, Taupo
• Aimee Rawlings – Mitre 10 Mega, Hamilton

Lower North Island:
• India Bartlett – Hot Shots, Palmerston North
• Andrew Ford – Mitre 10 Mega, Wanganui
• Nicole Perry – Mitre 10 Mega, New Plymouth

South Island:
• Amelia Biggs – Paper Plus, Nelson
• Sheree Freer – Carvin Streetwear, Gore
• Nikolas Kissel – The Rockshop, Christchurch
The Retail Institute had a record number of nominations this year for this award which recognises the Retail Modern Apprenticeship scheme and the hard work apprentices have put into their retail careers.

The winners will be announced during the New Zealand Retailers Association National Conference in September. Here, the regional winners from around New Zealand and an overall winner will be announced.

The winners will receive the opportunity to complete the National Certificate in Retail Level 4, the management level certificate, for free. The overall winner will receive an Outward Bound learning experience.

The finalists will be mystery shopped by Market Pulse International to help determine the winners. They will be looking for good customer service, communication and product knowledge.

The Retail Modern Apprenticeship programme is a government funded, work-based training programme for young people from the ages of 16 to 21. It aims to make it easier for employers to recruit and train talented young staff and train them to eventually be supervisors or managers.
