Kent Baddeley Appointed Chief Executive Of Parehua Country Estate


Well-known chef and restaurateur Kent Baddeley has been appointed Chief Executive of luxury Martinborough lodge, Parehua Country Estate. John O’Sullivan, Chairman of Parehua Country Estate said, “Having developed Parehua Country Estate we wanted to ensure our guests received a culinary experience that was consistent with the high quality of our facilities. While best known as a restaurateur, Kent is a third generation hotelier with considerable local and international experience managing hotels and resorts. He has all the attributes we were seeking.”

Parehua Country Estate provides luxury accommodation in the hub of the Wairarapa wine region, overlooking the countryside and vineyards and a few minutes walk from the historic Martinborough township. The resort has a 5-Star Qualmark rating and an established reputation catering for weddings and corporate retreats. Kent Baddeley says, “This role enables me to not only pamper the diner but to provide an all round experience in relaxed and luxurious setting. We make no apology for seeking to become one of the world’s top gourmet getaway experiences.” Prior to joining Parehua, Kent lived in the Hawke’s Bay and was involved with Shed 2, recognised as the best developed bar and restaurant by the Hospitality Association of New Zealand. Other assignments have included Director of Food & Beverage and Executive Chef at Sileni Estates, which won restaurant of the region in 2001, and a two-year contract as Executive Chef at Napier’s renowned Masters Lodge and at Clearview Estate.

However, amongst these accomplishments, most will remember Kent as the Executive Chef and owner of the Wellington restaurant Petit Lyon. From 1983 to 2001, Petit Lyon won more accolades than any other fine dining establishment in the country. Mr O’Sullivan said, “We are delighted Kent agreed to come on board to create a marriage between a first class property and cuisine. We look forward to him taking Parehua to the next level and realising its potential as a world class getaway.”
