Expedia.co.nz sends flight booking fees packing for good

Auckland, 07 October 2009: New Zealanders have enthusiastically embraced the recent initiative by Expedia® to temporarily waive flight booking fees on Expedia.co.nzTM – so much so that we’ve sent flight booking fees packing – for good.

Just over a month ago, New Zealanders were given the opportunity to help make the removal of flight booking fees permanent. Expedia said that if there were 200,000 visits to the Expedia.co.nz website by 18 October 2009, flight booking fees would be dropped for good. And the people have spoken – well before the cut-off date!

Currently, travellers may be charged flight booking fees of up to $50 on other travel websites, but when booking a flight on Expedia.co.nz – whether domestic, international or intra-regional (i.e. flights between overseas destinations) – Expedia will no longer charge a booking fee.

“Expedia’s aim is to be the single best place to plan and book travel. This is all part of the commitment to put the traveller first in everything we do,” said Louise Crompton, Marketing Manager for Expedia.co.nz. “With over 170 airlines to choose from, and sophisticated technology that enables travellers to search and compare the best possible fares and itineraries, Expedia.co.nz offers Kiwis a compelling one-stop option for their travel needs,” she said.

Ms Crompton also said that Expedia is so confident in its international flight offering that it stands by its Expedia Price Promise, which promises that if Expedia.co.nz customers find a better price for an equivalent airfare on an available Expedia Special Rate (ESR) international flight originating in New Zealand (or with an available ESR hotel), Expedia will beat that price by $1 and give the customer a $50 coupon for use on their next Expedia.co.nz travel booking. Another reason to book your next trip on Expedia.co.nz right now!
